A Regional Seminar on Waste Management under the Initiative of Solving the Chemicals and Waste Problem, under the Framework of the Initiative of Building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Initiative of Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, was successfully held in Kunming on Nov 7th. Government representatives and experts from the environmental protection area of seven countries such as China, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam attended the seminar to discuss proposals to promote solid and hazard waste management in the Asia-Pacific area, and enhance the solid and hazardous waste recycling and environmental protection in the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.
Hosted by Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacificï¼BCRCï¼and organized by GreenNovo, the seminar focused on the implementation of the Basel Convention in different countries and their management policy, the treatment approach of hazardous and solid waste, and especially on the treatment technology, laws and regulations, as well as the investment in steel and non-ferrous metallurgy industry.
Recycling solid waste has always been a worldwide challenge. Due to the insufficient
technology and investment, the treatment of solid waste remains a serious problem. However, wastes are nothing but misplaced resources.
âStatistics show that the investment of secondary resources is rising as the economy develops and people pay more attention to environmental protectionâ, Ms. Zhang Zhe from the Department of Solid waste and chemicals and Ministry of Ecology and Environment explained, the comprehensive utilization of industrial solid waste is an important component of the strategy of energy conservation and environmental protection. During the 13th five-year plan period, addressing mismanagement of industrial solid waste, environmental pollution, and safety concerns caused by stockpiling, has been regarded as the fundamental solution. The only way to achieve sustainable development in non-ferrous metal smelting is to rely on the high-tech industry to increase the added value for products.
Mr. Ma Liyang, chairman of GreenNovo, told us, âthe Chinese government and people have attached great importance to environmental protection and the effect of treatment in the past few years. The industrial solid waste recycling has become a priority for ecological civilization constructionâ.
GreenNovoâs proprietary treatment technology is able to extract multiple metals like zinc, lead, indium, and bismuth from heavy metal solid and hazardous waste, without any discharge of waste water or slag, to ensure the environmentally sound management without further pollution. GreenNovo has set up more than a dozen of factories at home and abroad, and leads in industrial scale, advanced technology, and complete industrial chain management. While maintaining smooth development at home, it also actively responds to the Belt and Road Initiative to export leading-edge technology, management and operation services to countries along the B&R Initiative and other countries.
Attendees also took a field trip to the Gejiu factory of GreenNovo to study the core technology and products in solid waste treatment. âIt really impresses me that they are able to extract so many kinds of metals from the waste residue. Their automation and modern technology will be a great fit for smelting companies. I will definitely recommend them to companies in Vietnam, which is only 180 kilometers away from Gejiuâ. Mr. Nguyen Nhu Trung from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Vietnam told reporters.
